Turned my HyBran into a smart home command center

Finally ditched my Alexa and Google Home setup. Moved everything to OpenClaw running locally on my HyBran, and honestly it's way better than I expected.

The setup:

  • Hooked OpenClaw to my Home Assistant instance via webhook
  • Voice commands work even when the internet is down (the killer feature)
  • Created custom scenes: "movie night" dims lights, closes blinds, sets temp to 72°F
  • Morning routine gradually raises lights and reads my calendar while I make coffee

What surprised me:

  • Response time is faster than cloud assistants. No more "Hmm, let me think about that" delays.
  • Privacy actually means something. My light switch patterns aren't being sold to advertisers.
  • Battery impact is minimal — HyBran still lasts 3+ days even with constant Home Assistant polling.

The only hiccup was setting up the Matter bridge, but once that was done everything just worked.

Anyone else running local-only smart home setups? Curious what automations you've built.
